- Properly Dispose of Chemicals
It may seem easy to pour your paint, old cleaning supplies, or other chemicals down the drain to get rid of them. However, this pollutes the local water supply. One of the biggest polluters out there is fertilizers. Many contain high amounts of phosphorus, which runs off into the water supply and contributes to outbreaks of blue-green algae. Organic fertilizers usually release into the environment more slowly and also have a less dense amount of nutrients, making them better for the water supply.
