Austin Water Treatment Plant 4 now officially open

Austin Water Treatment Plant 4 now officially open

A new water treatment plant in Austin that can hold up to 50 million gallons of water daily for treatment was officially commissioned on December 19, KVUE reported.

The Water Treatment Plant 4 near RM 620 has been pumping water for several months now before it was officially inaugurated. Unlike the two other Austin water treatment plants that draw in water from Lake Austin, the newly commissioned plant will be pulling in water from Lake Travis. Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell said new water treatment plant would secure Austin’s need for water, as the city’s population is expected to double over the next 25 years.

Since voters’ approval of the bonds to construct the project in 1984, the water treatment plant has been the subject of fierce arguments between city administrators and environmental advocates.

The newly opened treatment plant hopes to make Austin’s water system durable, safer, and more efficient. We at American Water TX would be happy to provide every Austin family the safest, clearest water that they can have.
