Areas of Lavon Lake to be dredged

Amid continuous drought and greater water demand, a contractor for the North Texas Municipal Water District will start dredging two areas of Lavon Lake to increase water output, the Daily Journal reported on February 16.

Dredge America will start unearthing the silt that accumulated around two of three intake pipes of the lake in a dredging project that is expected to last for 60 days. The project, which is estimated to cost $1.9 million, would remove 10 feet of collected silt and would boost water output by up to 7.2 million gallons per day.

Officers of the North Texas Municipal Water District said Lavon Lake’s low water level would make it easier for the contractor to work on the project.
